Mr. Yimeng Sun, a graduate of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI), wrote a column entitled "Report on Participation in the ITU Challenge", which appeared in the Autumn 2021 issue of IEICE B-plus, a quarterly magazine published by the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE).He reported in detail on his research and presentation at the "AI/ML in 5G Challenge," which he participated in with his advisor, Assistant Professor Badr Mochizuki, and won the top prize while a student at KCGI.subtitled "The first time I saw the first time I saw the first time I saw the first time I saw the first time I saw the first time.After completing his studies at KCGI in March 2021, Mr. Sun is now an assistant professor at his alma mater, where he is advancing his research in data analysis and deep learning, as well as mentoring younger students.
The AI/ML in 5G Challenge competition, sponsored by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), was held on November 11, 2020, with the goal of applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to 5G networks to solve real-world challenges.After estimating the network state (throughput and loss rate) while using machine learning in real time, Dr. Sun and Dr. Mochizuki constructed and proposed a machine learning model with an estimated recognition accuracy of 96.3% for throughput using deep learning from a given real-time video data set.As the use of teleworking systems using webcams such as Zoom is rapidly increasing around the world due to the global spread of the new coronavirus, this project was highly evaluated for its potential to improve measures against communication speed degradation and communication delays, as well as to improve the communication system itself.In response, the IEICE asked Dr. Sun to contribute a column to the journal.
In his column, Dr. Sun added his experience of presenting at the ITU Final Conference, which was held online worldwide after the conference, and wrote, "This challenge gave me the experience of solving real-world 5G network problems using machine learning and deep learning, and communicating with other researchers [around the world].They are expected to perform well at this year's competition, which will be held again this year, and have greatly inspired and influenced the younger students at their alma maters.
KCGI has newly established "Artificial Intelligence" as a specialized field subject group in the academic year 2021.Students will learn the basic theory and application of artificial intelligence and related technologies such as data science through examples in various application fields, and master the techniques for utilizing artificial intelligence in various fields while becoming proficient in software related to artificial intelligence.
