The 40th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was held at the Kyoto International Conference Hall (Sakyo-ku, Kyoto) from May 4 to 7, 2007, with approximately 3,000 finance ministers and central bank governors from 67 countries and regions around the world in attendance.
On May 5, Kyoto Day, a seminar titled "KYOTO SENSE: Tradition and Innovation in World-Class Kyoto" was held on the theme of Kyoto, the host city of the event. Associate Professor Maria Macaventa Ikeda of the Kyoto Institute of Information Science participated in a panel discussion with Professor Chihiro Suematsu of Kyoto University's Graduate School of Economics, and Atsushi Horiba, President of Horiba Manufacturing Co.
During the panel discussion, Associate Professor Ikeda analyzed the characteristics of cutting-edge venture companies originating from Kyoto from the perspective of their relationship with Kyoto's culture, based on his daily research results, and presented the importance of "education to enhance creativity and open modular collaboration open modular collaboration" in order to spread Kyoto's know-how to other countries, which continues to produce innovative cutting-edge companies.
