KCG Group Degree Conferral and Graduation Ceremony for Spring Semester 2021 in Cyberspace

The degree conferment and graduation ceremonies for the spring semester of the 2021 academic year of Kyoto Computer Guraduate Institute (KCGI) and Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG) were held in cyberspace on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.Due to the prevention of new coronavirus infection, the ceremony was not held in the main hall on campus, and KCG Group President Wataru Hasegawa and KCGI President Toshihide Ibaraki offered their congratulations and words of encouragement to each of the participants in a video-streamed address.Despite the uncertain outlook for the future, these graduates have left with confidence and hope, having acquired solid IT knowledge and skills, as well as a high level of qualities as members of society.Congratulations to all of you!We sincerely wish you the best in your future endeavors.

This is the fourth degree conferment and graduation ceremony using cyberspace, following the 2020 ceremony in March.Graduates and alumni participated in the ceremony via the Internet.The students were happy to complete their studies and graduate in a ceremony that could only take place at a state-of-the-art IT educational institution, where the latest systems are utilized throughout.

In his address, President Hasegawa explained that the ceremony was held in cyberspace to prevent the transmission of the new coronavirus and to ensure the health and safety of alumni, graduates, and related personnel.He added, "Everything you have learned and experienced at this university will serve as a solid guide for you in your future life, as you face up to hardships and carve out your future.The IT field will continue to advance at a dizzying pace, and I am confident that all of you will be able to keep up with this evolution and stay ahead of the curve.We hope that they will further hone their skills and contribute to the realization of a better society.Each of you is a member of the KCG family, a human network of more than 50,000 graduates and alumni.Many of our seniors are active in various aspects of society.It would be wonderful if our alma mater, which is aiming for its 100th anniversary, and alumni and alumnae could work together to grow and develop together," he said in his farewell address.

President Ibaraki touched on the current situation of the new coronavirus and said, "You are all going to be active in society, and the first major issue for you will be how you can contribute to overcoming this pandemic.The next question is how to create the so-called "after-corona" society that will emerge afterwards.I know that the work and activities you will be involved in will be diverse, but no matter what field you are involved in, the ICT knowledge you have developed at this university will surely be an important weapon," he pointed out.He added, "You have gained knowledge of ICT, which is the key to the new era, at our university.They will be valuable assets that will surely help you in your post-graduation activities.The world of ICT is changing very fast, so do not settle for the knowledge you have acquired at our university, but always remember to absorb new knowledge and keep yourself updated.I sincerely hope that all of you will take on the challenges and succeed in the opportunities that come your way," he encouraged.

Mr. Sun, a graduate of KCGI's Graduate School of Applied Information Technology, on behalf of the graduates, said, "We were able to learn and acquire knowledge and skills related to information technology at this university.I would like to devote myself to contributing to the creation of a new future by fully demonstrating the knowledge and abilities I have acquired at this university, which is blessed with an excellent educational and research environment, in my respective field," he said in his graduation/completion speech.

At the ceremony, the graduates who have achieved outstanding academic and research results and were selected for the Grand Prize and the Award for Excellence were announced.Each will receive a certificate and a commemorative gift.The "Master of Information Technology (Professional)" degree awarded to KCGI graduates and diplomas and title certificates to KCG graduates will be mailed or handed to them individually at a later date.

The ceremony was followed by an online celebration.Graduates and alumni joined the "celebration hall" from their respective locations, reminisced with faculty and staff, and discussed their dreams for the future.Using the "Virtual Gown Photography System" developed by Professor KCGI, a photo session was also held in which alumni were dressed in academic gowns on the screen.
