Obituary〉Professor Ryuichiro Sengen

Prof. Ryuichiro Sengen, Professor at Kyoto University of Information Sciences and a world authority in the field of intellectual property law, passed away on April 5.He was 81 years old.

Today, intellectual property law is an extremely important area of law that supports the foundation of Japanese industry, but in the past it was a minor field that did not receive much attention, and not even courses were offered at major universities. At that time, Dr. Senmoto was one of the first to recognize the potential of this field, and after graduating from the Faculty of Law, Kyoto University, he pursued research and educational activities as a pioneer in the study of industrial property law in Japan. He has also been active internationally, serving as an arbitrator for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and as a visiting researcher at the Institute of Intangible Property Rights at the University of Paris.

While teaching at Doshisha University, he also gave a special lecture on intellectual property rights every year at Kyoto Computer Gakuin, attracting many students with his skillful storytelling.

Since then, he has been in charge of lectures on "Intellectual Property Law" and his famous lectures, always full of passion and intellectual curiosity, have influenced many students.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to him for his great contribution to the development of the university and pray for his peaceful repose.
