An unprecedented attempt by the University of Eastern Europe and Japanese universities to conclude an online academic education exchange agreement was made at The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI).KCG Group (KCGI and Kyoto Computer Gakuin) held a signing ceremony with the University of Pardubice in the Czech Republic on May 15, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. (Japan time) for academic and educational exchange using a distance video conferencing system.Having overcome the barriers of time difference and distance with their strong friendship and the latest technology, the two universities pledged to work hand in hand for mutual development in the future.
At the Hyakumanben Campus of KCGI, where KCG representatives including President Wataru Hasegawa, KCG Dean Yasuko Hasegawa, and KCGI President Toshiharu Hasegawa were in attendance, a live video feed of Pardubice University was shown on a monitor in front of the venue, with President Jiri Malek, Professor Jan Chapek (Vice Dean, Faculty of Economics and Management), Dr. Yana Hola (Faculty of Electronics and Information Science) and others in attendance.The time difference from the Czech Republic is 7 hours, and the signing ceremony began with a "good morning" call from the KCG side.
On the day of the signing, after an explanation of the process leading up to the signing, the signing documents were signed by President Hasegawa and President Marek, while confirming the signatures of the other parties via videoconference system.
In response, President Marek said, "I am convinced that the signing will be beneficial in acquiring new knowledge and expanding our global activities.Both are new organizations.We would like to promote exchange activities with a desire to bring innovation to higher education," he said.I hope that the signing of the exchange agreement will be an opportunity to further promote friendly relations and mutual development," said President Hasegawa.Afterwards, both parties celebrated the signing with a toast of wine.
With the signing of the agreement, the two universities plan to: (1) mutually dispatch faculty members and students, (2) cooperate in education and research, and (3) exchange academic materials and publications.
University of Pardubice
It is a national university founded in 1950 as the University of Chemistry, which was later renamed the University of Pardubice in 1994.The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics) was newly created in 2002 and is expected to contribute to the field of ICT in the Czech Republic.
