The KCG Group 2020 entrance ceremony for Kyoto Computer Gakuin College (KCG), Kyoto Computer Guraduate Institute of Informatics (KCGI), Kyoto Japanese Language Training Center (KJLTC), and Kyoto College of Global Motor Vehicles (KCGM) was held on April 5, using cyberspace. To prevent the transmission of the new coronavirus, the ceremony was not held in the main hall on campus, as was the 2019 KCG Group Degree Conferral and Graduation Ceremony on March 20, and KCG Group President Wataru Hasegawa and KCGI President Toshihide Ibaraki delivered their remarks via video streaming to welcome and encourage new students. This year, many young people with a strong desire to acquire specialized knowledge and advanced skills have joined the KCG Group.Congratulations on your enrollment!
In his address, President Hasegawa first explained the circumstances leading to the holding of the entrance ceremony in cyberspace: "We took into consideration the prevention of the spread of new coronavirus infection, and the health and safety of new students, visitors, faculty, and staff. He then explained the history and educational philosophy of the university, which was established 57 years ago as the first computer education institution in Japan and has produced some 50,000 graduates to date. Many of our graduates and alumni are active in their respective companies, and many of them serve as executives and presidents," he introduced. Then he said, "You are all members of our university from today.Make as many lifelong friends as you can while you are in school.I hope that you will engage in friendly competition and study hard.I hope you will follow in the footsteps of our outstanding seniors and carve out a bright future for yourselves," he encouraged the new students.
President Ibaraki said, "Today is called the age of ICT (Information and Communication Technology). The key to this progress is in the hands of those of you who are learning ICT and working in the ICT world. After a few years of solid study at the university, you will be able to determine what ICT can and cannot do," he explained. He added, "Our goal is not only to provide systematic knowledge of ICT, but also to nurture human resources who can play an active role in a wide range of applied fields. The University offers a wide variety of lectures from basic to advanced. Please take advantage of this opportunity to acquire as broad a knowledge base as possible," he urged.
KCG and KCGI are currently relocating classes and other school operations to cyberspace as a measure to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infection. We have made preparations to move the start of the spring semester of the 2020 academic year to April 17, and to switch to e-learning (a system that allows students to study at home via the Internet).Students do not have to come to school, but instead attend classes at home by connecting their own computer to the school's server. This is expected to avoid as much as possible the dangerous environment in which many students gather in an enclosed space such as a classroom, thereby dramatically reducing the risk of viral infection. The purpose is to ensure that the spread of the new coronavirus does not interfere with student learning. With a few exceptions, administrative work on campus is also carried out in cyberspace, and faculty members telework in principle. The duration of this measure will be determined by monitoring the infection situation and government announcements and other trends. The orientation for new students, which began on April 1, is being conducted with the utmost care, including dispersing the orientation to a small number of students, avoiding closed spaces, and thoroughly disinfecting the room.
