The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) degree awarding ceremony in 2010 Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG) The graduation ceremony was held on March 19th at the Kyoto Information Graduate University Kyoto Station Satellite Hall.Amidst the devastation caused by the Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake, the students who studied together at the KCG Group left the school with a strong desire to "contribute to the further progress and development of social infrastructure by making the most of the knowledge and technology they have cultivated to help in the reconstruction of the disaster-stricken areas.
At the beginning of the meeting, all attendees observed a moment of silence for the victims of the Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake.Following the ceremony, KCGI President Toshihide Ibaraki presented the diplomas of "Master of Information Technology (Professional)" to the graduates, and the principals of Rakuhoku, Kamogawa, and Kyoto Ekimae Schools presented the diplomas to the KCG graduates.Afterwards, the KCGI and KCG Grand Prize and Excellence Award winners were presented with certificates and commemorative gifts.
In her address, KCG President Yasuko Hasegawa touched on the Great Tohoku Kanto Earthquake, emphasizing that "we must share the pain with the people in the affected areas and work together to overcome this national crisis.I hope this event will be an opportunity to learn about the importance of life and compassion for others," he said.He also urged graduates to cultivate "workplace skills," which emphasize human relations and mutual emotionality in the workplace, and "onsite skills," which are based on dialogue with those around you and enable you to resonate and empathize with one another.
President Ibaraki commented, "The recent earthquake exposed the fact that our information infrastructure is still fragile.As professionals specializing in information technology, we must seriously consider what we must do in the future.On the other hand, he pointed out that the democratic movements sweeping North Africa and the Middle East were triggered by ICT technology, saying, "The advanced information society is still undergoing constant change.I hope that you will find what the times require and actively take on the challenges of the future.
Next, Megumi Hiramoto, a graduate of KCGI's Graduate School of Applied Information Technology, majoring in Web Business Technology (a graduate of KCG's Department of Information Science), representing graduates and alumni, said, "I had a fulfilling student life at a school with a long tradition.In the midst of the unprecedented catastrophe caused by the Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake, accurate and prompt information and communications, along with a system for transporting relief supplies, are now absolutely indispensable social capital for people's survival.I believe that it is the mission of information technologists to support the foundation of this vital social capital," he said in his powerful "graduation address.At the end of the event, all attendees sang "Hotaru no Hikari" (Light of Fireflies).
After the ceremony, the venue was moved to RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto, where the "Farewell Party for Graduates" was held.Graduates reminisced with faculty and staff with whom they had shared their joys and hardships, and pledged to make great strides in the future.
