The first certified by the Information Processing Society of Japan!
On Monday, March 2, 2009, kcg.edu received the first "Distributed Computer Museum" accreditation in Japan from the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ).At the certificate awarding ceremony held at the auditorium of the Japan Pavilion of the National Museum of Nature and Science (7-20 Ueno Park, Taito-ku, Tokyo), the museum was recognized as "one of the most valuable collections in Japan, preserving many computers used in education, general purpose computers, mini computers, office computers, personal computers and peripheral equipment since its foundation in 1963.At the same time, the OKITAC 4300C system and the TOSBAC 3400, both of which are preserved at the museum, were designated as "authorized equipment" of the "Information Technology Heritage.KCG will continue to consider ways to make the exhibition available to the general public at all times.
The TOSBAC 3400, which has been recognized as a "Heritage of Information Processing Technology," was developed based on the KT Pilot, the first microprogram-controlled computer in Japan. The "TOSBAC 3400" is a general-purpose computer that has a close relationship with KCG. Dr. Hiroshi Hagiwara, former director of the KCG Institute of Informatics and the first president of KCGI, Japan's first IT professional graduate school, was in charge of the basic design and software development of the KT Pilot when he was a professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University, and developed the machine with Toshiba Corporation.
With the rapid evolution of computer technology, the transition of information processing equipment also rapidly developed.Similar to the purpose of the new certification system established by the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), the University believes that it is necessary to preserve and utilize technologies and products that have important significance to be passed on to the next generation. Therefore, we plan to provide many people with opportunities to view these valuable computers that have played an active role in education for the past 45 years or more.To commemorate the certification, we are planning to hold an exhibition in our school building in the near future.
