The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) An information security seminar hosted by Cyber Kyoto Research Laboratories was held on November 22 at the Kyoto University of Information Sciences Kyoto Hall.The lecturer was Yoshiyasu Nishibe, Director of Security Management Office, Information Security Department, NTT Communications. In a lecture titled "Your computer is being targeted this much," he explained the importance of Internet security and examples of cyber attacks in an easy-to-understand manner for beginners.After introducing trends in the amount of damage caused by cyber attacks over the past 10 years and trends in attacks, Mr. Seibu explained in detail the methods used to infect PCs with viruses (ransomware) by sending e-mails under the names of NTT Communications and friends.As a countermeasure that even beginners can take, he advised them to wait a few hours after receiving an e-mail, instead of opening it immediately, and to have their security software check for viruses using data on the Internet during that time.In addition to KCGI and KCG students, many members of the general public visited the venue, indicating a high level of interest in Internet security.
