KCGI's Cyber Kyoto Institute in "Keihanna.Certified as No. 1 by the prefectural government

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) has established “Open University Kyoto,” which promotes collaborative education with universities around the world using e-learning and business development using the geographical name top-level domain “.kyoto” born this year "Cyber Kyoto Research Institute" with the theme of "Kyoto Open Innovation Center" (KICK, formerly: My Work Building, Seika Town / Kizugawa City) will be opened in 2014. On September 4th, we received approval from Kyoto Prefecture as a research and utilization plan for the center.In April of this year, the prefectural government took over the "My Work" building, which had ceased operations due to a slump in business, and renamed it "My Work" and solicited business plans appropriate for the research institutes and academic research facilities that would occupy the building.The prefectural government highly evaluates the "Cyber Kyoto Research Institute" project, saying, "We expect it to serve as a base from which research and development in ICT and education can be disseminated from Kyoto to the world.

On this day, a certification ceremony was held at the Kyoto Prefectural Government Office, where Mr. Wataru Hasegawa, President of Kyoto Joho Gakuen, which operates KCGI, received a certificate from Governor Keiji Yamada of Kyoto Prefecture, and attended a joint press conference.

At the beginning of the press conference, Governor Yamada addressed the audience and said, "I hope that KICK will be a facility that supports not only Kyoto but also the future of Japan.I would like to thank The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics for making great proposals, less than six months after the call for plans.The development and advancement of ICT and education is a theme appropriate for Kyoto Prefecture.The prefectural government will do its utmost to promote the project.After President Hasegawa introduced the KCGI group and the plan approved this time, Mr. Makoto Nagao, Counselor of Kyoto Prefecture (former President of Kyoto University), explained how the KCGI plan was approved.It was a very attractive project, and the selection members unanimously decided to certify it," he explained.

In explaining the specifics of the plan, Chancellor Hasegawa said, "Since the establishment of the first computer education institution in Japan, we have continued our activities here in Kyoto for more than 50 years.While maintaining our position as an educational institution, we will strive to revitalize the region by communicating the "Kyoto of the world" to the world.

The main pillars of the "Cyber Kyoto Institute" project are: (1) a project to improve the brand power of "Kyoto," (2) a project to strengthen the transmission of information about the real Kyoto, and (3) an "Open University Kyoto" project to develop an educational system on the Internet in which universities in Asia and Kyoto-based universities collaborate with each other.The institute is scheduled to open in August 2015.

Specific projects include: holding seminars and workshops to promote the ".kyoto" domain name; establishing the Kyoto Brand Certification System; establishing a school safety and security network access system; and establishing and operating a clean domain check system.Design and implementation of a platform, design and implementation of an educational content creation platform, and design of a cyber study abroad system.We plan to work hand in hand with Kyoto Prefecture and local residents in an "all-Kyoto" structure for the promotion of our projects and the revitalization of the region, which is our ultimate goal.
